Jointech JE200 Color Ebook Reader Review

Posted by Baby Jane Paguirigan On February - 7 - 2010 2 COMMENTS

je200In this day and age, everything is turning electronic. It started with the conversion of the regular (which is now called “snail”) mail to the electronic mail or eMail, our books turning into electronic books or eBooks. Therefore, there is the need for us to have gadgets to be able to catch up with this very fast-paced technology. One day I came across this remarkable device, called the JoinTech JE200 Color eBook Reader. The name itself speaks for itself, it stores and lets you read eBooks. So what’s so “remarkable” about it? Read on and you’ll find out.

There has been an older version of this eBook reader, the JE100. Is it much different than the latter? the answer is one big YES. The JE100 is a basic eBook reader, all it does it stores and displays the ebooks for reading, while with the JE200, there’s a whole lot more. First, it it colored. It has up to 16GB storage, supports all eBook formats, touchscreen, it has a backlight for night reading, and has full multimedia support to name a few.

As for hardware specifications:

  • it is standing proud with a Win CE 5.0 operating system
  • 400MHz processor
  • 64MB internal RAM
  • 7 inch touchscreen
  • SD Card support for up to 16GB
  • a built in speaker, audio out
  • weighs only 250g
  • and has a battery life of 3-6 hours.

As mentioned, it supports almost every eBook file formats such as .txt, .pdf, .doc, .rtf, .jbk, .html/.htm, .swf, .chm, .cbz. In addition to this, the JE200 also support audio (.mp3, .wma, .wav), video (.avi, .mpeg, .asf, .mp4, .wmv), and image (.bmp, .jpg, .png, .gif) formats plus any WINCE 5.0 compatible software. Knowing all these, you may be able to tell what it can do, but there’s more. The JE200 can be customized to have a user interface suited for special clients. The software itself is upgradeable, and another great thing about it is that the makers, Join Tech, offers free technical support to direct clients.

JoinTech JE200

Remarkable isn’t it? These are but some of the reasons why people are being more and more excited about getting JE200 for themselves. After I saw what this excellent device can do, I honestly am thinking of getting one for myself.

The JE200 can be ordered from Sales4Online for $299 USD.

Asus Eee Reader?

Posted by Jennifer Wang On September - 8 - 2009 10 COMMENTS

The cheapest portable ebook reader yet is set to arrive soon.

The Asus Eee Reader has finally been confirmed for a 2009 March 2010 release. Many sources are speculating that this not-yet-released eReader will dominate the market, and that Amazon better watch their back. There’s also rumors that there’ll be two versions of the “Eee”: a budget unit priced at $164 and a higher-end device ($200).

Here’s a glimpse at the higher end Asus Eee Reader:

Asus Eee Reader

The Eee Reader reportedly will have features not typically found in traditional eReaders:

  • A webcam and microphone…for using Skype (a book that makes phone calls? Wow)
  • A hinged spine, as shown in the picture above
  • Two color screens, one of which could act as a keyboard! This second screen could also be used to surf the Internet while reading a book on the first screen.

Because the Eee Reader will have full-color screens, it’s safe to assume that eInk technology will not be used. That being said, hopefully Asus has come up with a way to reduce problems like glare and readability that other companies like Sony faced when not using eInk.

It’s hard to predict how successful these new devices will be, but I for one think it’s exciting to see companies thinking “outside the box” and trying new things. On the other hand, critics have complained that the Eee Reader has too many features that are distracting from the primary purpose of an electronic reading device…READING ;)
